What is the PWNW?
Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child concerns participation and states that all children and young people should have a voice in any decisions affecting them, and that their opinion should be respected.
The PWNW (Participation Workers’ Network for Wales) is a new FREE service for workers and organisations that are interested in or actively promote participation in their work with children and young people.
The Network services include:
- An online database where members can find and network with other participation workers
- The opportunity for workers to share information on good practice in participation, and experiences and ideas for participation methods.
- Bi-monthly e-briefings including news and consultations regarding participation
- The chance for members to showcase a participative approach, activity or event that they have been involved in.
The PWNW is being hosted by Children in Wales on behalf of the Children and Young People’s Participation Consortium for Wales, a multi-agency strategic body building capacity for the development of participation in Wales. The Network Co-ordinator works closely with the Consortium and the Participation Unit, the delivery arm of the Consortium, based at Save The Children.
The PWNW was initially developed with funding by Carnegie Young People’s Initiative until Summer 2008. Since then the project has been funded by Children in Wales.
