Education Working Group

The Education Working Group currently meets four times a year.  Membership for the group includes representatives from a range of educational (formal, informal and non formal) institutions and bodies – Estyn, FE Colleges, Agored Cymru, Youth Service, NUS Wales – as well as members working nationally on participation of children and young people in education.

The Working Group has a key role in advising and guiding the work of the Pupil Participation Project in DCELLS in the Welsh Assembly Government.  More broadly, it aims to strategically promote, develop and support children and young people’s participation in education in Wales.

The Education Working Group currently has a number of priorities that members are working on with the Participation Unit:

  • Continued to support the implementation of FE Learner Involvement Strategy.
  • Supporting roll out of the National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards in a variety of educational settings in Wales and establishing links with Estyn and their Common Inspection Framework.
  • Supporting the development and piloting of Participation OCN’s with Agored Cymru.

In particular, the Education Working Group wants to increasingly focus on:

  • The participation in education of young people who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET.
  • Sustainability of the work on participation in education.

Further information on the current work of the Education Working Group will be added soon.
