Training Working Group

The Training Working Group currently meets four times a year.  Membership of the group consists of representatives who have a training delivery role, currently deliver training on children and young people’s participation or are key stakeholders in the strategic development of participation training in Wales.

The Working Group has focused to date on developing core training on children and young people’s participation and feeding this into training for both adults and children and young people.  The support and development of young participation trainers, accreditation for training on children and young people’s participation and training up professionals in different sectors have also been key issues for the Working Group.  Particular support and guidance has been provided for the Participation Unit’s Young People Say.. project where young people are trained up to deliver participation training to practitioners.

Members of the Working Group have attended a Train the Trainers for Children and Young People’s Participation.   Others have had training from Young People Say.. teams.

The Training Working Group currently has a number of priorities that members are working on with the Participation Unit:

  • Circulation of Training Blast Off! Guide to Children and Young People’s Participation.
  • Targeting particular sectors or professions to integrate core participation training into the training of new or existing staff.
  • Building up and supporting a bank of young trainers who can (co) facilitate participation training across Wales.
  • Running Young People Say… with particular groups of young people e.g. those that are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET.

Further information on the current work of the Training Working Group will be added soon.
