Opportunity to pilot Impact Assessment Framework for participation in decision making

Posted:20/08/2010

Practitioners are being given the opportunity to pilot the Impact Assessment Framework for children and young people's participation in decision-making in Wales which Anne Crowley has developed, supported by the Participation Unit.

In terms of taking this work forward, there is a four-stage plan:

  • Stage One: submission of brief pro-forma for selection of range of pilot partners.  Ideally we would like to train everyone who has an interest in piloting the Framework - however, due to capacity and depending on numbers interested, this may not be possible.  A brief pro-forma will provide us with information on your pilot project, setting, target group etc so we can make sure we select a range of pilot partners and projects to test out the Framework.  Please see pro-forma attached.
  • Stage Two: bring together all interested piloting partners for a training session with the Participation Unit and Anne Crowley on Thursday September 2nd  (or later - this date may be put back if necessary)  so that (1) everyone is provided with full background and information on the Framework (2) everyone has a consistent picture in terms of running their pilots and can map out their own pilot timeline (3) piloting partners are able to network with each other and (4) we are able to discuss any area of concern / support needs.
  • Stage Three: The pilots will then run over around a six month period (September to April), with contact with the Participation Unit by phone to review and support progress.
  • Stage Four: Finally all piloting partners will come together for a review session with the Participation Unit and Anne Crowley - this is planned initially for April 5th but may be re-arranged - so that (1) piloting partners can feed back from their pilots (2) an evidence bank can start to be built up and (3) we can review the Framework and its application overall.

The training and review days will be run at a central location i.e. a mid Wales venue should we have (as we hope to) a spread of pilots across North, Mid and South Wales.  As you know, since our funding for our work comes from the ESF Convergence Fund, our focus for pilots will need to be in ESF Convergence areas (Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Torfaen).

Please could you respond to Anna Skeels by email (A.Skeels@savethechildren.org.uk) as soon as possible, if possible attaching a completed pro-forma and confirming that you are able to attend  a September training day and a review day around April 2011.  We will let you know details by email and about venue and arrangements for the initial training day.
