Neath Port Talbot - Young Inspector Training
Posted:30/01/2012
The Young Inspectors of Neath Port Talbot have awarded four organisations with the National Kite Mark within the area after conducting six inspections. The group, trained in February 2011, will be passing on their knowledge in February 2012 to another group of young people interesting in becoming young inspectors.
What do Young Inspectors do?
- Ensure that the best possible Standards of Participation are delivered by organisations working with children and young people, or whose work impacts upon them.
- Assess and evaluate the services that work with and impact upon children and young people on how they are meeting the National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards for Wales; report their findings and advice on improvements.
- Allow young people to have their voices heard and to give them the opportunity to award organisations meeting all the standards with a National Participation Kite-mark.
- Encourage existing services to reflect on their practice and implement change.

The 4th and 5th February this year will see around 20 young people join a training programme to become Young Inspectors. The programme aims to secure the sustainability of the programme after a decline in the group’s numbers with previous Young Inspectors moving on to study at college or university. Those remaining have been trained through work plans produced by Dynamix and Save the Children alongside the OCN in Participation; it is this group of young peole who will provide the training.
