Participation Policies

United Nations General Assembly adopt the UNCRC
In 1989 the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child).
 

United Kingdom ratifies the UNCRC
On the 16th December 1991 the United Kingdom government ratified the United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child.
 

Devolution in Wales
In 1997 a referendum was held on whether to form a Welsh Assembly and devolve powers in Wales. These plans were approved and the National Assembly for Wales was set up in 1999.
 

Welsh Assembly Government commitment to the UNCRC
The Welsh Assembly Government formally adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on January 14th 2004, and in doing so made a commitment to ensure that children and young people in Wales have access to their rights including Article 12.
 

School Councils Regulation 2005
The Welsh Assembly Government passed a regulation requiring all primary, secondary and special schools to have a school council by November 1st 2006.
 

Extending Entitlement: supporting young people in Wales
Extending Entitlement is the Welsh Assembly Government’s flagship policy for promoting opportunity and choice for all young people in Wales aged 11-25 years. The policy was launched in 2002
 

The 10 Entitlements
The 10 Entitlements followed the Welsh Assembly Government Extending Entitlements policy and are a set of rights for all young people in Wales.
