Measure the outcomes and the changes that have occurred as a result of children or young people’s participation.

Welcome to our website

The National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards for Wales have been developed to improve the process of children and young people’s participation in decision-making. The Participation Standards measure the ‘quality’ of the process of children and young people’s participation against key agreed indicators.

In addition to measuring the process, it is important to assess the outcomes and the changes that have occurred as a result of children or young people’s participation.

The Impact Assessment Framework, which is currently under development, supports measuring what changes actually take place as a result of children or young people’s participation in decision-making. The National Participation Standards and the Impact Assessment Framework are designed to work alongside each other to assess and improve practice for the benefit of children and young people, practitioners and services across Wales.

This website has been specifically designed to help practitioners, policy makers and managers. It aims to support you through the steps you need to take before, during and after completing a self-assessment against the National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards for Wales and achieving a National Participation Kite-mark.

The materials on this website will support you to gather information that supports your practice in terms of the participation of children and young people in your organisation and also highlights some key questions to consider: Who should be involved? What types of evidence should be gathered? How will I go about completing the self-assessment online? How can an organisation get a Kite-mark?

The website contains a large amount of resource material that supports the participation of children and young people and guidance on how to meet the National Children and Young People’s Participation Standards for Wales.
